Rise Up, Reach Out 2020
October 31, 2019
Dear St. John’s Family,
On this All Hallows Eve, with only days to go before our RISE UP…REACH OUT Commitment Sunday, I write to offer thanks for the many expressions of support we have received thus far. The testimonies provided were stirring, and they captured the essence of St. John’s.
We heard from Amy, Eddie, and Jeff, who bore witness to the impact of St. John’s ministry upon their lives. My hope is that hearing their stories has stirred something in you to share yours.
Our campaign theme, “Rise Up, Reach Out,” functions on many layers in the witness of St. John’s. We rise up and reach out to one another as the family of faith who worships here. We rise up and reach out in our care and compassion for those who come to us our doors seeking sustenance for their daily living, in their work in recovery, and in their spiritual formation. We rise up and reach out to speak to the injustices in our community that perpetuate poverty and racism. And we rise up and reach out to make a witness to The United Methodist Church that this church is for All people.
Last Sunday, you were asked to make the Stewardship Commitment of your prayers and service in the various ministries making up St. John’s. This Sunday, All Saints’ Sunday, you are being asked to make you financial commitment to our church for the coming year.
In the face of extraordinary challenges that come with a time of uncertainty and transition in our denomination’s life, the need for a solid financial foundation to fund our ministries could not be more needful than now. 2020 will be a defining moment for The United Methodist Church, for St. John’s, and for each of us. Please be present and prayerful this Sunday as we remember those who have gone before us in the previous year and stand upon their shoulders are we go forward into the future.
Grace and Peace.
