St. John's embraced the vision of the Church Health Center before it opened its doors in 1987. In 1986, the church hired Scott Morris, M.D., M.Div., as an associate pastor while
he pursued funding for his dream of a faith-based health center for the working poor. The church also bought the Church Health Center's first building, which was renovated with gifts from individuals, organizations and congregations throughout the city. Since it began, the Church Health Center has served more than 50,000 patients. Scott continues to serve as associate pastor.
