Vacation Bible School 2017
Vacation Bible School at St. John’s is a time for children ages 3-12 to come together for a week in the summer to enjoy Christian-based programming, service projects, art, and music activities. This year we are partnering with St. Luke's UMC for our VBS! We will gather at St. Luke's UMC during the week of June 5, Monday- Friday from 9:00am-12:00pm.
Explore a crowded Roman marketplace, tiptoe past watchful Roman guards, encourage first-century Christians who meet in a dark cave, race chariots, and visit Paul for daily discoveries about God’s love. From opening to closing and everything in between, kids are transported to ancient Rome where they’ll meet Bible-times heroes, visit the Roman marketplace and spend time exploring firsthand the unique culture of Paul’s world. Register here!
Atrium / Catechesis of the Good Sheperd
At the heart of the St. John's Children's ministry is Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. St. John's adopted Catechesis for its primary Sunday morning offering for children in 2010, and now offers all three levels - level one for ages three-six years, level two for first-third grade, and level three for fourth-sixth grade. The children meet for an hour and a half each Sunday morning, September through May, for presentations on the Gospel and the liturgy of the church, individual work time, and time for group prayer and song.
Catechesis was founded in Rome sixty years ago as a Montessori-based spiritual formation ministry for children. It has since spread to denominations and countries around the world. The primary theme of Catechesis is that of wonder. Through pondering the story of Jesus, children are led to discover on their own who this Good Shepherd is, and how much he loves each of us.
Atrium begins at 9:15am in Atrium 1 (Room 316). Children will be brought to the sanctuary before worship.
Parents' Night Out
Children ages 3-12 are invited to join us on the third Wednesday of every month during the school year for Parent's Night Out! The kids will enjoy dinner together, music, and art, all while parent get to spend an hour and a half being adults! We hope you will invite your children's friends to join us as well. See Zach Ferguson if you need a signed release form for your child or their friends. The nursery will also be open during this time to give parents the option to bring their tiniest family members under the age of three as well.
St. John’s is especially blessed to have a faithful and dependable team of nursery workers on staff. We offer nursery services to our littlest members, from ages six weeks to five years young. The nursery is a safe and welcoming place where children can play and learn while their parents and guardians participate in worship or other church functions. Because the safety of children is our most important concern, we abide by practices outlined in our Safe Sanctuary policy. The nursery is open Sunday mornings, Wednesday evenings, and as needed during other church programming.
