
Marjorie Levy, Director of Finance

Marjorie Levy received her BA in Art History and her MBA from the University of Memphis. She is also a CPA. Marjorie has worked in public accounting, corporate accounting as well as non-profit accounting before starting at St. John’s. As Director of Finance, Marjorie is responsible for all the monies coming in and going out of the church as well as the presentation of the financial statements. Drawing on her love of art, Marjorie also is the art teacher for the pre-school and elementary children on Wednesday night. Her favorite activities involve spending time with her husband Herb and son Vincent.

Emma Martin, Office Manager

Emma Martin joined the staff of St. John’s in September, 1989 as church secretary. Emma has also worked in other positions which includes accounts payable, payroll, Nelson Woods Coordinator and other areas of the daily operations of the Church Office. Emma’s home town is Hernando, MS where she graduated from high school (then called Central High School) and also a graduate of Coahoma College in Clarksdale, MS. She has two adult children, a son who lives here in Memphis and daughter and son in-law who lives in Hephzibah, GA. Emma also works part-time at the Church Health Center. In her “off-duty” time, she loves to watch old movies (especially westerns). Emma says the daily experiences through the years at St. John’s are both humbling and challenging. These are years she would not trade.

Sarah Harr, Secretary, Organist, Children's Music Director

Sarah Harr works part-time in the church office, printing the worship bulletin, publishing the monthly newsletter, and assisting with the daily needs of the staff and the congregation. Sarah also plays the organ for St. John’s and directs the children's choir. Sarah and her husband, James are both doctoral students in music at the University of Memphis. Sarah plays the organ and teaches Music Theory while James sings in the opera and teaches voice students. Sarah and James met at St. John’s in 2009, and they are very thankful for the loving and supportive community here.

Bill Dozier, Building Maintenance Manager

Bill brings 30 years of construction and general maintenance experience to his work at St. John’s, including credentials as a journeyman painter and high steel worker. He has been lead maintenance worker in the nursing home and apartment complex settings. Bill is a member of Lindenwood Christian Church and enjoys helping those in need, especially kids and people in recovery from drugs and alcohol. Bill is a recovering addict with 5 ½ years of sobriety.

John Peoples, Director of Music

Johnny Peoples received his BME and MME degrees from Arkansas State University, Jonesboro, AR. He has been actively involved in church music since taking over the role of pianist from his mother at the small Southern Baptist church he was brought up in. Johnny began his association with St. John's when he was the music director at First United Methodist Church, West Memphis, AR, when asked to come sing by Kyle Linson with the choir for special choir services. Shortly after that he became the tenor section leader at St. John's and eventually took over the position of organist/pianist. Johnny is the choir director for Marion High School and Marion Jr. High in Marion, AR.

Rose Holmes, Housekeeper
Rosetta Holmes was born and raised in Chicago, IL. She was the 8th of 9 children. Rose left Chicago at age 21 to care for her aunt and uncle in Memphis, and she has been a Memphian ever since. She has worked for Holiday Inn for almost 20 years, and we have enjoyed her presence at St. John’s for 14 years. Rose has one daughter, Aish who loves to cook for her Mom and others and is sure to be a talented chef one day. Another special person in her life is her “Granny”. (If you ever need to find anything lost or misplaced at St. John’s .... just ask Rose! She’ll either know right where it is or will find it before you know it.)

Robert Phillips, Custodian
Robert Phillips is a life-long Memphian. He graduated from Manassas High School (Class of ’73). Robert has worked for St. John’s for 31 years and has worked for the Church Health Center since it opened in 1987 – 23 years! So he spends lots of time on the corner of Peabody and Bellevue. Robert has three sons and two daughters – all involved in some form of music. Both jobs keep him busy, but when he does have free time, Robert enjoys football and basketball seasons. Always quick with a smile and ready to help, St. John’s just would not be the same without Robert.

We are so grateful for our experienced, caring nursery workers. Cynthia Nesbit has been caring for children at St. John’s for more than 20 years. Her daughters, Laketra Morgan and Crystal Nesbit have now been working with her for eight and four years respectively. They dependably and thoughtfully provide a safe, loving environment for our smallest members.

Carolyn Walton, Saturday Soup Kitchen Representative
Carolyn was born and raised in Memphis Tennessee. She is a mother of two, Anthony and Angela. My two children have blessed me with 5 wonderful grandchildren, 4 girls and 2 boys. For over 35 years, Carolyn has worked in the foodservice industry. Presently, she is working at Holiday Inn Select in Downtown Memphis as the Head Breakfast Cook. For the past 13 years she has served as the Soup Kitchen Supervisor at St. Johns. During this time she has acquired many friendships and acquaintances. Her service to those less fortunate has been extremely rewarding. She truly enjoys her position and fells bless to serve the Lord and his people in such a way.
