Advent 2019 at St. John's - Becoming
By: Rev’d Dr. Johnny Jeffords
Advent is a season of waiting for the coming of Messiah. It’s what we do to prepare ourselves for the incarnation of God’s love and grace in the world. More than a commemoration of a singular pivot point in history, we are called to live in the present reality of how Christ is come into the world as expressed in our lives now.
More than waiting for the coming of Jesus, which is how we rightly honors the season, the compelling question is how are we preparing for Hope, Love, Joy, and Peace to be born in our lives and in our witness? That’s the opportunity before us.
Our worship focus is Becoming. Becoming Hope. Becoming Peace. Becoming Joy. Becoming Love. As you come to worship, Sunday school, Advent small group, soup kitchen, food pantry, the Living Nativity, prepare for how you are Becoming the very things we know Jesus ushers into the world.
Come in Hope.
Come in Peace.
Come in Joy.
Come in Love.
Become all of these.
See you at St. John’s.
