Rev'd Dr. Jonathan L. Jeffords
Johnny is the Lead Pastor at St. John’s, a post he has held twice during his ministry. He led St. John’s from 2001-2009, and returned in 2014.
Johnny is a native of Paducah, Kentucky. As a child in a clergy family, he’s lived throughout Western Kentucky and West Tennessee. As a pastor, he has led congregations in Middle and West Tennessee with most of his ministry spent in the Memphis area.
He is married to Kristy, together they have three sons, one grandchild with another on the way!
Among Johnny's contemporary theological influences are the works of William Sloane Coffin, Marcus Borg, Joan Chittister, Frederick Buechner, Howard Thurman, John Dominic Crossan, Barbara Brown Taylor, and the poetry of David Whyte, Mary Oliver, and John O’Donohue.
Johnny is a lifelong fan of the Memphis Tigers (as challenging as that can be sometimes)! He loves to cook for his family and friends, and playing with his granddaughter is one of his absolute favorite things. When time allows he gets lost in great mysteries and whodunits. He's a SciFi fan who appreciates the mythology Star Wars, but make no mistake, for him it’s all about Star Trek (LL&P). And he loves comedy-- outstanding comedic performances are true works of art.
Johnny loves music – he loves to listen to it, play it, sing it. His diverse musical tastes cross many genres including 70’s rock, Memphis Soul, Standards, Jazz, and more. He’s been part of bands and musical collaborations over the years and his long time fantasy is to be the front man for Chicago!
